But Distortion Wave's physical damage starts to suck really quickly, and the part of it that's strong is the electrical burn in the final synergy (which will be weak for a meleeist for lack of Int and unavailable in the early game anyhow), so it's mostly only an option if you're having trouble early, with the understanding that you'll respec out of it. If you don't intend to take Warfare, you may want to put points in Psionic Touch and its synergy (the reason you won't want that if you are taking Warfare is that it's an LMB skill, and Warfare offers the much better Onslaught), a point or two in Sands of Sleep, and possibly a point or two in Distortion Wave in the very early going for slows and some AOE damage. Most of the best stuff in Dream is kind of high up the tree. Defense obviously does less damage, but not by as much as the name implies (and it's *much* hardier). Dream addresses these somewhat, but maybe not enough to deal with the really bad stuff coming in Acts 3 and 4. Warfare does *ridiculous* damage, but it has problems with archers and mobility. If you like AOE abilities and want to try a melee build, you may want to consider Warfare + Dream or Defense + Dream. So good it's actually really boring, especially once you get far enough up both trees to have AOE arrows and confusion poison. In practice, it's actually almost all melee, with the occasional Volcanic Orb for stun and clearing masses of little guys and Eruptions to fight inside. I would like to try one melee combo eventually, so something with Warfare might be niceĪny and all advice and hints would be welcome.Įarth + Defense is a melee combo. Hunting + (don't know yet, someone recommended Occult) Other combos I might give a try soon-ish: I've read a bit at the Underlord section of, and someone mentioned Storm works well with Dream, so that might be an option. Would like to stay away from pets, or at least from hordes of pets.

Not sure yet whether I'd prefer ranged or melee. In general, I tend to favor AOE abilities and not so much the single target stuff.

Now I could really use some detailed pointers regarding skill and stat allocation.Īlso advice about the second Mastery. I started a game and chose Dream for my first Mastery because CC sounds pretty useful. Alright, so as to not clutter Joey McGuffin's excellent WIP thread, I made my own.īear in mind that the last Diablo-clone I played was Torchlight, and before that Diablo 2.
